Grace, my kids, and I went out skiing today. Since we're carpooling we tried our luck at P10. We got lucky indeed and got the last parking spot.
It was cloudy and snowing when we started the climb up Fortune parkway. The tracks were hard and fast due to rain from last night. Once we got up to Fortune Lake, the tracks were much better with a thin layer of new snow. Wind was strong. We quickly got to Keogan Cabin and went inside to have a break.
We met up with Alan and Kimmie inside the cabin. They were enjoying their break as well. The stove was hot and the cabin was warm. We heated our food and had a lovely lunch. The kids played outside with icicles.
The sun came out by the time we were ready to leave. On the down side, the wind was howling now. Wesley, Cathy, and I raced down Fortune parkway and we had a blast. All in all, it was a good ski.

It was a lovely ski indeed. The snow in the morning is the beautiful kind reminding you of a winter wonderland. We dropped off DS at Camp Fortune, said hi to dedicated Jane and started our climb. Anything is better than last week's snow. We can the park has groomed trails all the way to parking lot. Yay! We love the few upward slopes at the beginning as they are perfect warmup. Though I am really slow, shaking heads as the skate skiers zooming by.
ReplyDeleteAt the intersection of Ridge Road, top of the big slope, we saw a dad waiting with his troops. The eldest ventures on his own skis, the baby is comfortably sitting in trailer, and the middle one just tags along behind the trailer. Koodos to the devoted dad and a die-hard xc ski family.
One thing I love to wear out on the xc trip is a shirt with big letters "I don't have brakes". Or better yet, in French. As the quebecois, often are not that considerate in sharing the roads with newbies. They can't see that I need a 4 cars width going downhill.
It was a nice surprise to see the sun come out when we left the cabin, though very chilly. Wind picked up and had a few white outs on the road.
Thanks Captain Jack for calling another great trip. Waiting for the next one!
A lady scolded for taking both lanes. When I passed her earlier, she didn't bother to move out of the tracks even though she was not moving. I don't know what logic she follows. Anyway I try not to let these kind of things bother me.
ReplyDeleteI never saw free space at P10 before dark, you were lucky.
ReplyDeleteKids looked lovely.
